Happy Freedom Day everyone!
Can you believe it really is 20 years (2 decades!) since so many of us went and voted for the first time on that April day in 1994?
I thought of something profound to say, but my happiness revolves around my pride at South Africa as a country, and the people in it.
I see the South Africa in my amazing circle of friends
I see the new South Africa in the feedback I get from colleagues and clients that visit South Africa for the first time (and immediately plan their next trip)
I see the new South Africa in the colour-blindness of so many Born Frees
I see the new South Africa in the international business success of so many entrepreneurs
I see the new South Africa in the huge number of South Africans moving back home after a few years overseas
I also see the new South Africa in the current politics – and it reminds me what we fought for all those years ago – and how our voices and votes are just as important now as they were then.
We still have a way to go (which country does not??) – but we have come blerrie far.
And I love you stukkend, South Africa 🙂
