any objections to a tap on the 18th hole?

i read a scary statistic this morning – that the world’s gold courses use about 9,45 billion litres of water per day.

seeing as that is too much to actually think about, out south african golf courses, that number about 500, use 1,2 million litres per golf course, per day!

if an average person uses 25 litres of water per day in the course of cooking and washing, then each day’s irrigation of green grass for a little white ball to roll over smoothly, uses the same amount of water as 48’000 people would to cook and clean.

48’000.

and to think how many people living within a 10km radius of any given golf course do not have running water… seems a little out of kilter, doesn’t it?
