while obama sleeps after his 10 balls that he danced at, the world dissects and analyzes his first words.
i liked his inaugural speech – just as historic as the fact that we have a first black president of the usa, so it was the first time (to my knowledge) that environmental issues were out on the table to early – even at all. Bush doesn’t really have a track record of caring much for the environment, and if palin had been up there yesterday, we would have gone backwards 500 years…
so, apart from all the olive branches he was extending from that podium, he also acknowledged that there would need to be changes in the way the environment and global warming is dealt with.
things like, “we will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories” and “with old friends and former foes, we will work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the spectre of a warming planet. we will not apologise for our way of life…”, indicate that he is well aware of global warming and how oil has led to so many problems with and for the usa.
the line,”we will not apologise for our way of life…” is interesting, and i cannot decide exactly what he refers to there; maybe time will tell…
